Terminus is a weird fake Irish pub / specialist beer café combination that is much better than that description makes it sound. It's also very handy for the station and is a hotel, too. And they've had Westvleteren on all my visits. Just to pump up the bizarreness level a notch further, the pub also has some connection with Fish. Not the marine lifeform, but the singer with crap band Marillion. At least he has taste in pubs. If you're interested, there's a report of Fish's 45th birthday, which was held in Terminus. The beer selection is very good, including, as already mentioned, Westvleteren. So what are you waiting for - head down to Terminus now. Just take a peak through the window before entering to make sure Fish isn't sat at the bar.

Bar Le Duc is more a beer pub with attached brewery than a straight brewpub. The bar has been around since 1975, but the brewery only opened in 1999. It's a dark brown café with all the usual features - lots of age-darkened wood and beer-themed decoration. I've never been a fan of exposed brickwork and this pub has it in spades. Including (as you can see in the photo to the left) a slightly duff bar counter. At the rear is an odd raised area featuring, you guessed it, more exposed bricks. There is an extensive food menu and a large selection of whiskies, too. And before I forget, Bar le Duc is dead easy to reach, situated at the station end of the town centre.

Cafe De Deugniet

Deugniet is a dark brown café right in the heart of Den Bosch. In fact, it's on the same street as the Brabants Museum. Though this doesn't mean it's on a main road, in fact it's a bit of a backwater. Though I think you'll agree that it's worth going slightly out of your way for. If I tell you that it's a dark brown café, you should get an idea how it looks. There's a dark wooden bar counter, a lovely selection of gleaming glasses decorating the bar back and old brass beer fonts. The only thing it lacks are windows. (It's like being in Krakow.) Het Veulen

Tim Webb mentions Veulen in his guide, but just to say that its's the only ABT café (Alliantie van Bier Tapperijen - an association of specialist beer pubs) he doesn't give a full listing. I'm not so fussy. Especially when it's next door to another beer bar (Bar Le Duc) that I've already included. If you check the opening times, you'll notice that (in the Winter) Veulen is sometimes open a bit earlier that its neighbour. There is a small outside seating area.
