| Introduction | |
| Graz - Austria's second city - was European
cultural capital in 2003. I expect readers of these pages will be more interested
to learn that it's home to four breweries, three of them brewpubs. Pubs Austrian pubs - and those of Graz are no exception - have lots in common with those over the border in the Czech Republic. Half litre measures, reasonably-priced food and vaulted ceilings are the features that most readily spring into my mind. Beer The beers of Brau Union dominate Graz. Either those from the city's remaining large brewery (Reininghaus-Puntigam) of from nearby Göss (Gösser). |

| A beerhall bought by Gösser as long ago as 1924. As you would
expect from a brewery outlet, it sells most of the Gösser beers.An old 40,000
litre mash tun from the brewery has been built into the taproom. They serve a Gösser-Gulasch made with (could you have guessed it?) Gösser beer. |
